After developing some of the most innovative and progressive sound processing tools in the plug-in world, Unfiltered Audio is reaching new heights with its revolutionary first synthesizer. The LION is an incredibly deep synthesizer with an easy-to-use interface that has everything you need for fast patch creation, endless experimentation and intuitive sound design.
Under the hood of the LION is an architecture with two generators, each with 26 modes. These mods range from familiar classics to unique generators found nowhere else. Choose from FM synthesis, subtractive or additive signals, “super” oscillator stacks, microsound, noise, or variations of each!
Each algorithm has been specifically designed for deep modulation. In addition, each generator is equipped with an additional stereo mode that creates wide images at the synthesis level. From there, you can take advantage of Unison’s deep LION manipulation with each parameter and the additional Drift tweak to get rich, full and lush sounds with just the oscillators, before you gravitate towards any external effects.
In addition, the LION is also quite unique in that it turns oscillator mixing into yet another creative synthesis opportunity. The mixer offers various modes for combining two oscillators in ways not seen in any other synthesizer. The default algorithm acts like a standard crossfader, while more experimental modes such as bitwise operations, bi-directional sample and hold, ring modulation, min. / Max., Wave landscapes and direct comparison operators, create a non-standard relationship between two oscillators, all of which result in true amazing sounds.
The unmatched filterless modulation system is here and better than ever. It now includes a massive MIDI In Modulator that turns your playing into multiple possibilities for deep expression. For example, you can control the cutoff knob of the filter according to the last MIDI note value, or modulate the timbre of the oscillators with the Velocity control. With full MPE support, you can use controllers like the ROLI Seaboard or Sensel Morph for incredible vocal articulation.
With all of these features, you have the ability to create sounds that look like they were created by a large chain of plugins, tabs, and automation tools.
The strength lies within
Many software synthesizers include a small library of forgettable effects, but with LION you can eliminate the need for external effect plugins. LION contains the already legendary BYOME effects line from Unfiltered Audio, a flexible library of over 40 modulated effects. All LION synthesis engines and the BYOME line have access to the same modulation sources, so you can create complete presets with detailed effect chains that react to your playing. The possibilities here are truly endless, and the factory library of nearly 600 presets for a variety of genres and styles will prove it to you.
Finally, LION adopts Unfiltered Audio’s “offbeat sound design” concept and extends it with an improved version of the randomization engine that was introduced at BYOME. As you browse through hundreds of presets for inspiration, you can take advantage of the new scalable randomization depth. This allows you to add anything from a tiny amount of variation every time to completely new presets that look almost nothing like the original source.
All these features are enclosed in a single interface with clear, intuitive control. Instead of wasting time watching lessons to learn the intricacies and hidden capabilities of the synthesizer, you can now focus on the music.
